Both pieces have a power switch

I can turn each off independently, which is useful when one is packed away and the other is in use. No accidental drain.

Looks tidy on a glass desk

The matte finish does not reflect and the dark colour grounds the setup. On a glass-topped desk it looks deliberate rather than improvised.

Black shows dust quickly

The finish is a matte black that collects light dust within a week. A quick wipe fixes it, but a lighter colour would hide it better.
